OCT Break-Even Calculator

Type your scan volume, your contracted payment per scan and your monthly equipment payment. The page does the arithmetic and shows the break-even volume. Every figure is yours.

Your current or expected volume. Start with what the schedule shows today.
Your contracted or average collected amount. Look it up for your locality; see Sources.
From your quote or lease. Leave 0 if paid in full.
Extended warranty, software subscription, if any.

Your inputs and results go with the message. Nothing is stored on this site.

What this does and does not tell you. This is arithmetic on the numbers you typed, nothing more. It does not know your payer mix, your documentation, whether a study is covered for a given diagnosis, or how often two studies can be reported on the same day. Owning an instrument establishes the capability; whether a study is paid is between your billing staff and each payer. Confirm current descriptors and coverage before relying on any of this. The OCT studies most practices are looking at are CPT 92133 (optic nerve) and 92134 (retina); the two are not reported together on the same day.
Sources. Payment rates: CMS Physician Fee Schedule Look-Up Tool, and search 92133 or 92134, non-facility, for your locality. Everything else on this page is your own entry.

Which OCT the numbers point at

A practice at the low end of the volume you entered is usually looking at the Optovue iVue 80 or iScan 80; higher volumes, anterior-segment work or OCT angiography point at the Solix Essential and Solix. If you also need fundus photography, the iFusion 80 combines both in one chassis. Run the retinal imaging calculator as well.

Bring the numbers, not a model number.

Ryan can walk through these figures against the instruments he carries and tell you which one, if any, earns the space.
